Final Module - Webcomic

For my final project, I needed to create a short webcomic. I chose to make a Sherlock Holmes style mystery in 5 installments of 4-panel comics. I hand drew each comic and then filled them in with color on the computer. Also, I chose not to give any of the characters pupils which allowed me to experiment with displaying emotion using the eyebrows and mouth.

The story is self explanatory, albeit a little shallow due to the length of the project.

Pre- Final Module Assignment: Police Station Comic

For this assignment I was given the script of a scene that is shown in the comic and needed to turn it into a visual representation using as many panels as i deemed fit.

Final Module

For this module I need to create a webcomic that tells a short narrative.
I am thinking of doing a short series of 3-panel or so comics that depict either (1) a sort of Sherlock Holmes murder mystery or (2) an adventure mystery in which people are searching for some artifact in the jungle. Each of these options allows me to do a short, continuous story, and I figured on including a pun in each installment for comic relief.

Module 4.3 - Story

For this assignment I was given a picture (shown below) and I needed to create a story based around it.

Bob was stressed. When he had gone out to get the paper that morning, he noticed his front lawn was covered with dog droppings. It turns out that when the neighbor’s kid left for school he neglected to shut the door and all the animals left the house. Bob had seen the dogs outside and thought nothing of it, they were frolicking on his neighbor’s property. But their poo was on his. He got to work cleaning up the mess and by the time he finished he decided he wouldn’t be able to get back to sleep. Luckily the weather was beautiful and Bob decided to hike up to the nearby lake and enjoy a day of peace and quiet on the water. It was quite a ways away and he didn’t feel like carrying his lunch on his back so Bob brought along the donkey to carry his things. After hours of hiking he made it to the lake, only to realize he forgot a rope and wouldn’t be able to tie the donkey to a tree. After searching for alternatives, Bob realized he had no choice but to take the donkey along for the ride. He managed to convince it to get in the boat, and all seemed well for a while. About a half-hour in, Bob took out his lunch. The donkey smelled the food and proceeded to kick Bob out of the boat. (Picture) Shortly after Bob resurfaced, a soggy sandwich in hand and a grimace on his face. He climbed back into the boat and took it to shore. He shook himself off and dried in the sun as the donkey watched on unabashed. Finally dry, Bob headed for home - hoping nothing else would ruin his day.

Module 4.2 - Animatic 2

For this exercise I needed to take still photographs from a movie and sync them to a separate audio track. I got images from Forrest Gump and took the audio from the trailer for Commando.

Module 4.1 - Animatic 1

For this exercise I needed to create a short animatic out of storyboards and including sound. This is a scene in which someone gets angry when a man doesn't pay his debts...

Module 3.3 - Soup Can Ship Storyboards

For this assignment we I was given a story to turn into a shot list/storyboard sequence. Mine consists of 10 shots, and the story is provided below.

What appears to be an oversized soup can with a dome lid hurtles through space, twisting and turning every which way down to Earth. It skims across treetops, around bridges and buildings, whipping into the air anything not anchored down. The ship (soupcan) guides its way to an open field for an emergency landing. As the ship gets closer, a house and barn come into view. The ship attempts to land in the field, showering ears of corn onto the landscape. The ship slows its destructive path, but not soon enough. BOOM! The ship crashes through the upstairs window of the house and whizzes out the back door, crashing through the barn, stopping in a haystack. The animals in the barn turn to look at the smoldering haystack. As the animals move cautiously toward the object, the haystack RUSTLES, and out pops EDDIE the warthog, wearing a bomber jacket, goggles, and helmet.
